My goal for my final project was to create a pretty
simple way for me, as a future teacher, to understand the process of learning
to read. I decided to do this in a creative graphic organizer. I chose to
represent the process of learning to read in a clock form for a few reasons.
Primarily, I liked the idea that “Reading Takes TIME” as a motto for the
project, because of course it does! Reading doesn’t happen overnight (nor in a
12 hour span, but the clock circles around again, so it works). I also loved
the idea of having the hands of the clock, where we know that the second hand
moves faster than the minute hand which moves faster than the hour hand, just
like how some children may progress faster than others along the process. To
decide what “made the cut” in getting to make the clock, I tried to choose some
of what I thought we the major topics. Ideally, I wanted this assignment to sum
up the course for me, so that I could easily look back on it and remember
concepts and know the places to look them up if I wanted to. It grew to be a
little more involved than I initially anticipated, but I think it will serve
its purpose well for me in the future!
